Facio & Cañas won the award for "The Transaction of the Year 2007" as a result of the counseling provided to McDonald's Corporation in Costa Rica with respect to the acquisition of its regional franchise. This transaction involved the transfer of 1600 restaurants in 18 Latin American countries.

The Republic of Guatemala designated Facio & Cañas´ attorney, Rodrigo Oreamuno, as arbitrator in a case filed by a Spanish company against the State.

Attorney Víctor Garita was recently appointed as director of the National Financial System Supervisory Council (Consejo Nacional de Supervisión del Sistema Financiero-- CONASSIF in Spanish), sustituing Francisco Lay, who is now the General Superintendent of SUGEF.  Víctor Garita will hold his charge until 2014 and he will share duties with other members of the Board of CONASSIF.

Costa Rica has its own legislation on arbitration that is limited to regulating local issues so experts in the matter recommend updating the Model Law the Model Law as a regulatory standard for the legislation to operate in international cases.
