Costa Rica’s legal community participated in the presentation of the book “Criminal Politics in the Social State of Law”, literary work in honor of Costa Rican diplomat Enrique Castillo. In the midst of applauses in a full auditorium, the jurist received recognition to his work on June 22th, at the Bar Association.

Among attendants were academicians, lawyers, and representatives of the Supreme Court of Justice, headed by its President Luis Paulino Mora. During his speech of acknowledgement, Castillo mentioned the contribution of Facio & Cañas to his renowned professional career.

“I have also received inspiration and wise teachings from my colleagues of the University of Costa Rica and from my co-workers at Facio & Cañas law firm. I continue today learning from those who accompanied me in the public function, as well as from my friends who have enriched me sharing their concerns, experiences, and affections”, said the lawyer.

The book “Criminal Politics in the Social State of Law” compiles the contribution of Costa Rican, Argentinean, Spanish, and Belgian jurists, among others. Its chapters cover themes such as international and juvenile criminal law, the prevention of crime, and social rights. The initiative received the support of the University of Costa Rica, the State At-A-Distance University (UNED) and the Editorial Jurídica Continental.

President of Facio & Cañas, Víctor Garita, its Managing Partner, Ernesto Hütt and partners Rodrigo Oreamuno and Kathya Araya attended the activity. “This acknowledgment to one of our colleagues fills us with pride and satisfaction. It is an honor not only for the law office, but also for the country,” commented Garita.

The tribute, in which about 200 persons participated, ended with the conference “Cultural Diversity and Criminal System” in charge of Spanish academician and lawyer Juan Carlos Ferré Olivé.

Costa Rican lawyer and diplomat Enrique Castillo has been member of Facio & Cañas since 1980.
