The inclusion of Costa Rica in the French list of fiscal paradises and the international pressure for the opening of tax transparency would be strong factors in the actions that Costa Rica will take with regards to the handling of the bank secret in the country. La República Newspaper consulted lawyer of Facio & Cañas, Manuel González, on this matter in its edition of March 8th, 2010.
“The pressure imposed by developed countries to make more flexible or to eliminate the bank secret is very strong. The inclusion of Costa Rica in these fiscal paradises’ list is an example of this via. Actually, even countries so jealous of its privacy and of the banks secret such as Switzerland, have had to stand their ground before these pressures”, commented the expert.
