Partner of Facio & Cañas, Rodrigo Oreamuno, presides the Arbitration Tribunal in charge of resolving the renowned International conflict between the company Brandes Investment Partners and the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, after both parties accepted the intervention of the Costa Rican specialist.

The investment counseling company opened the cause alleging that the Venezuelan Government obliged them to accept the sale of its shares in Compañía Anónima Nacional de Teléfonos de Venezuela for less than the market value, action that the plaintiff considers illicit and discriminatory.

This complaint is being heard by the World Bank’s International Center of Settlement of Differences Related to Investments (CIADI), who proposed Oreamuno as member of the tribunal in charge after the death last December of its president, the renowned jurist Robert Briner.

Besides the Costa Rican lawyer, the other members of the arbitration panel are French specialist Brigitte Stern and German jurist Karl-Heinz Böcksteigel.  The proceedings for the resolution of this case began in January 2009.
