Attorney Víctor Garita was recently appointed as director of the National Financial System Supervisory Council (Consejo Nacional de Supervisión del Sistema Financiero-- CONASSIF in Spanish), sustituing Francisco Lay, who is now the General Superintendent of SUGEF.  Víctor Garita will hold his charge until 2014 and he will share duties with other members of the Board of CONASSIF.

The CONASSIF is the organization in charge of overseeing and regulating the domestic formal financial system and the insurance, stock market, and pension regulatory agencies and financial entities report to it.

Garita assumed this position with great responsibility and he will combine it with his professional practice and as partner in the law firm Facio & Cañas.

The attorney hopes that his academic and professional experience, and his relationship with the financial and corporate sector for over 30 years allows him to create "a proper balance between protecting the interests of the investing public and the health of the financial system, in a efficient and balanced regulatory environment committed to the strictest standards of legality, honesty and transparency."

Víctor Garita is the president of Facio & Cañas and holds an honor’s degree in law from the University of Costa Rica and a Master’s degree from Tulane University in New Orleans, Louisiana.
